Here's an interesting conundrum, sometimes my job, which takes me all over, is very social and really exciting causes me to get a little "fried" and turns me into a recluse during my downtime?

So many of my friends are in my industry and I want to do stuff and be social during downtime, yet I find that I like to hole up on the weekends after traveling. I know I should be out and doing something to keep myself sharp and calibrate, yet at the same time, I don't always have the energy for it.

    Thoughts on creating more balance?

Working out and nutrition will bring balance to any life. Do you have a hobby/activity that you always wanted to do but never had the time for? Do it, just force yourself. You will find balance come into your life through activities that don't center around looking for women, but doing things for you and meeting women along the way.

When it comes to down time, I personally find it important to hole up for at least a day after an intense week of work. I've burnt out a couple of times in my career as a truck driver, and I atribute those burnouts to pushing too hard after a week or two of hard, stressful work. The toughest part of having to be "on" durring the week is having to pull out the reserves on the weekend when you get home for a family function or a last minute party. Like logic said, you NEED balance, or the house of cards will come tumbling down.

Personally, the first thing I do when I get home is give all of my friends a polite "fuck you", go home to my girlfriend and have a stiff drink. After a good night of sleep and taking care of things in the morning, I then call my mates and see what's up. I don't go out of my way to run to any party, I don't go out of my way to help anyone, I do what rob wants to do. As a friend so eloquently put it once... "What's Rob doing? Anything Rob wants."

When you think about it, your energy is your most precious commodity. What do we do with our energy? We use it and we give it away. So if you don't have any to give, then there really is only one option: recharge.

So I'd encourage you not to feel discouraged or that you are letting someone (or yourself) down when you don't go out. Really, you are probably doing others and yourself a favor.

I'd encourage you to think of your down time as sacred "Me" time.

What should you do? We can offer suggestions, but really thats just something you need to decide for yourself.
